On Saturday the Mustangs dropped visiting Louisiana Tech with aconvincing three to zero thumping. The win is the Mustang’sseventh straight and its ninth out of the last ten matches. Headcoach Lisa Seifert is doing her best to keep the team focused.
“When you get into a win-streak you tend to lookahead,” Seifert said. “It is important to stay focusedand prepare for each day.”
In the first game, the Mustangs came out prepared. The Poniessoundly defeated the visiting Techsters 30-23. The Mustang offensecame out swinging. The Ponies out hit La. Tech posting a .312hitting percentage to the Techsters measly .111. Junior outsidehitter Jacky Niederstadt led the Pony’s offense with eightkills in the first game.
In the second game of the evening La. Tech put up a fight. Thescore bounced back and forth until the Mustangs eventually pulledahead.
“The team has had such a balanced attack thisseason,” Seifert said. “Jessica Mihm has given us abunch of good chances and the hitters are putting them awayconsistently.”
The Ponies took the second game 30-25. Junior outside hitterBeth Karasek joined in on the action recording five kills with ahitting percentage of .580 for the game. The Mustang defense heldstrong recording three blocks and turning 11 defensive digs intomultiple offensive chances.
In the third game, the Mustang domination proved to be too muchfor the Techsters. Fatigue and sloppy play on the Techsters’side opened up the offensive floodgates for the Lady Mustangs. Thethird game ended 30-16. The kills came early and often. Afterspotting La. Tech a point to start the game, the Ponies offensetook shape and the onslaught was underway. Seven different Mustangsposted kills in the final game and the Mustangs defense was assolid as it has been all season.
“Our backcourt is the foundation of this team,”Seifert said. “We have spent a lot of time on blocking and weare prepared to play team defense.”
The Mustang defense recorded nine blocks on the evening, 45 digsand held the Lady Techster offense to a dismal .085 hittingpercentage.
The victory moved the Ponies to 3-0 in conference play for theseason. The Mustangs now hold an overall record of 12-4 headinginto Thursday night’s match against Tulsa.
