With so many advancements and changes going on in the tech world lately, Gmail users may be excited to hear that Google is rolling out a revamped interface.
For now, the new features are opt-in, but Gmail will eventually automatically upgrade all accounts to the new look.
If you don’t want to wait for the new look, you can switch to it today by clicking on “Switch to the new look” in the bottom right of Gmail.
A Gmail user myself, I decided to be adventurous today and switch to the new look. I love it. The redesign is simply a new layout to learn, no new features.
In the past, I avoided checking my Gmail account at all costs because of the cluttered and overwhelming layout.
The new stripped-down interface is cleaner and more modern – I might actually want to use my Gmail now.
Fox News lists eight major changes that users will notice in the new Gmail.
1. Gmail automatically resizes itself to fit into any sized window.
2. You can control the amount of e-mails shown on your screen at a time by adjusting the display density. Choose from “Comfortable,” “Cozy” and “Compact.” (I prefer “Cozy.”)
3. Adjust the size of the label and chat panes to suit your needs.
4. The labels themselves have more prominence in the new layout and make follow-up more efficient.
5. New themes that include a wider selection of high-resolution background pictures.
6. Conversation threads have been reorganized for improved readability (possibly the most useful redesign element in the new Gmail.)
7. Each e-mail in a thread also displays the sender’s profile picture.
8. There’s a new all-in-one search function.
Regret making the change early? Users can temporarily postpone the switch to the new look in the new settings menu, but sooner or later Google will flip the switch for everyone.
