If you’re looking for an enjoyable afternoon within a five-mile radius of campus, here are a few ways to spend it in Uptown.
Uptown, the newly popular area of Dallas, offers fabulous restaurants, a unique shopping experience and other entertainment such as live music, movies and art.
To start, you can get a soothing massage at the Aveda Salon in Mockingbird Station, just across 75 on Mockingbird Lane. They offer various types of massages and aromatherapy.
After that, stop into the cute shops located in the same center. For jewelry and accessories, check out Silver Moon and Francesca’s. Movida and Urban Outfitters offer hip urban styles.
If you’re hungry after all that shopping, head over to the new West Village shopping and dining area just south of campus on McKinney Ave. Grab some grub at the Taco Diner or Celebrity Cafe. Both restaurants provide a unique atmosphere with tasty selections and perfect lunch-sized portions.
If you still have a little room left for dessert, have some Italian gelato at Paciugo. This parlor offers creamy flavors from strawberry and lemon ice to rich hazelnut chocolate and pistachio.
Finish your day off with a great foreign or independent film. Head to the Magnolia Theater in the West Village or the Angelika back in Mockingbird Station. Both theatres offer a bar, a wide selection of food, leather chairs and a posh venue. It’s a movie-viewing experience like no other.
Either way, a visit to the West Village and Mockingbird Station is a great introduction to Uptown living.
