Starting Monday, drivers can expect traffic restrictions in several areas on campus. Construction of a new parking garage at the corner of Binkley and Ownby to the north of Morrison-Bell Track is slated to start in late October, but sections of Airline Road, Binkley Avenue and Ownby Drive will be blocked off starting next week. A portion of the McElvaney parking lot next to Westcott field will also be shut down then.
According to SMU’s Gary Schultz, traffic will be restricted for about 10 weeks in four different locations: the intersection of Airline and Binkley, at Airline between Binkley and Doak Walker Plaza, at Binkley between Airline and Ownby, and at Ownby between Binkley and the Loyd All-Sports Center.
The garage is scheduled for completion by late 2007 and will have 850 spaces. Schultz urged students to be aware of increased truck traffic along SMU Boulevard, Airline, Ownby, Binkley and Dyer Street.
