Welcome back to school, Mustangs. We here at Ed Board hope that everyone had a safe and relaxing holiday vacation and have come back energized for the spring semester. Just like you, we enjoyed our New Year’s holiday and have made a few resolutions to start the year off right.
We resolve to stop bitching about SMU not having a football coach. Thanks to the athletic department and Board of Trustees for ponying up and finally hiring former University of Hawaii football coach June Jones as the new big kahuna at Ford Stadium. We’re taking a guess that coach Jones is resolving to put his squad into the win column at least more than once this season. He might even make them bowl eligible, but let’s not get crazy just yet.
Next, we resolve to start reporting more on the 2008 Presidential election now that it is actually 2008. Unlike the rest of the country, who started handing out nominations last summer, we’ve held off on endorsing any one candidate. But you can be sure now that the primaries have kicked off we’ll be putting in our two cents on the race to the White House.
We also promise this new year to support the Writers Guild of America. While we miss the work of the WGA on all of our favorite TV programs, we appreciate the effect the writers’ strike had on the Golden Globes Sunday night. Here is what we suggest for future award shows, even when the writers and studio heads settle their squabble: have the red carpet pre-show, and let everyone get dressed up, then hold the same type of press conference as this year’s Globes did, and then let all of the celebrities have their after parties. We know it would make everyone a lot happier. Except for, maybe, the writers…
And speaking of not making things any better, we’re going to go ahead and make some resolutions for dear Miss Britney Spears. Britney: Please resolve to stop hanging out with bizarre paparazzos south of the border. We are pretty sure there are others who care more about your health and welfare than someone who will probably exploit you for a some exclusive film footage-like Dr. Phil. Okay, wait… maybe not.
In all seriousness, Ed Board and the entire staff of The Daily Campus hopes everyone resolves to do well and be safe in 2008. Go to class, attend sporting events and make a decision about the Bush Library already.
