Navy head coach Paul Johnson will be the next coach at Georgia Tech – not SMU.
The Capital reported the two sides agreed in principle to a deal Friday morning and Johnson was scheduled to inform his team of the decision.
Johnson was flown to Dallas Monday night and left Tuesday. After visiting SMU he went back to Atlanta for a second meeting with Tech officials. Terms of the deal are not immediately known.
SMU has no declared back-up candidate.
