SMU Mustang and sophomore forward Delisha Wills was named Conference USA Player of the Week after posting a game-high 17 points against North Texas over the weekend. Wills hit her fifth double double of the season, putting up 10 rebounds against the Mean Green.
Wills also contributed a game-high score of 18 points and contributed five rebounds and two steals in the Mustangs’ win against Stephen F. Austin last week.
Wills, originally from Mesquite has averaged 17.5 points and 7.5 rebounds per game, while shooting 61.9 percent from the field and 75 percent from the line. Playing in all 30 games last season as a freshman, Wills was also the team’s leading freshman scorer, averaging 9.4 points per game.
Wills is also currently ranked among C-USA’s Top 15 in eight positions, including ninth in free throws, 10th in scoring, 12th in rebounds, blocks, and defensive rebounds, 14th in field goals and offensive rebounds, and 15th in steals per game.
The honor marks the Mustangs’ second consecutive recognition after senior Janielle Dodds received the same award last week for her performance in the Hoops for the Cure Tournament. No Mustang was given this honor at any point last season.
The Mustangs will kick into action Thursday night against Coppin State and Saturday night against the University of Texas at Arlington. Both games will be held at Moody Coliseum.
