Another public victory for SMU occurred Friday, Nov. 2 when corporate magazine BusinessWeek ranked the Cox School of Business EMBA program as the 11th best business school in the world, and the PMBA program as the 13th best in the United States.
The Cox School MBA programs are currently the only programs in Texas ranked in Business Week’s Top 25.
“To have our EMBA and PMBA programs recognized by BusinessWeek as the best in Texas and among the best in the nation is terrific,” Cox School Dean Albert W. Niemi, Jr. said in an SMU public affairs article.
The Cox School was founded in 1920 as the Department of Commerce at SMU because of requests from the large business community in Dallas. Since its inauguration, SMU Cox has kept a close connection with the global business culture ever since.
According to the rankings, the SMU Cox EMBA program excelled in multiple categories, earning an A+ for curriculum setup and an A for teaching. The report also noted that students had “high praise” for talented faculty and experienced students.
The PMBA rankings are based on three different measures, involving a student satisfaction survey, an assessment of academic quality and a “values” survey directing questions as to how the students judge the worth of the program altogether. The rankings for SMU’s PMBA program earned it No. 8 for Academic Quality, No. 11 for Student Satisfaction and top marks for Career Switchers.
Similar reports from Forbes and U.S. News and World Report have the Cox PMBA program ranked at No. 10 and No. 12 in the world, respectively.
“A great city grows and thrives when anchored by a great business school with deep connections to the business community,” Mayor of Dallas Tom Leppert said in an SMU public affairs article. “For 87 years, the Cox School has helped Dallas businesses and working professionals achieve their objectives and advance their careers.”
