The time has come for SMU diners to rejoice! This semester saw the addition of two brand new dining establishments on campus: a Pizza Hut Express and a Starbucks. Perhaps too long overdue, these new dining options are a welcome relief for those of us who are shackled to SMU’s dining system, and we applaud all those involved for expanding our choices. Go ahead a give yourself a great big pat on the back.
Pizza connoisseurs can fulfill their lust for cheesy goodness by traveling to the bottom floor of Hughes-Trigg. Nestled between Subway and Chick-fil-A, Pizza Hut Express offers personal pizzas, wings, breadsticks and cinnamon sticks every Monday through Thursday from 10:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Friday from 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. While Pizza Hut is not the healthiest choice available on campus, our taste buds certainly appreciate the RFoC after having consumed so much food from Umphrey Lee over the years. A trip to the Dedman Center for all those extra calories is a price we do not mind paying if it means more food options on campus.
Ed Board would especially like to thank Dean Bowen of the Meadows School of the Arts for the dedication and common sense involved in the new Starbucks cart now stationed in Meadows. Instead of ordering a station to be constructed within Meadows, Bowen saved time and money by setting up a cart. This decision brought much needed caffeine to Meadows students without the hassle of waiting in a conventional Starbucks. It also saved the student population from Java City – SMU’s coffee shop which many students feel is inferior to the Seattle-based coffee chain. Starbucks addicts can visit the Owens Fine Arts Center every Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Friday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Both of these new dining options have Ed Board thinking: What other options should be available on campus? A few suggestions were thrown out:
Chipotle – Need we explain? We think the SMU campus could benefit from all those delicious burritos and tacos.
La Madeleine – Why not put this beloved eatery on campus so students won’t have to spend so much time walking down Bishop Boulevard? Let us use our precious lunch break to eat, not get to the restaurant.
Greenz – The mere mention of this place thoroughly excited one particular member of Ed Board. Something with that effect is definitely worth bringing to campus.
A big thank you is due from all the stomachs of Ed Board to dining services. We hope that this means the beginning of a beautiful friendship – or at least delicious flavor.
