Few stories have captivated the Western world like that of King Arthur and his knights. The legends have been told in French, English, and Welsh. Illustrious writers including Alfred, Lord Tennyson, Mark Twain and John Steinbeck have taken a shot at retelling the classic tale.
None do so as well as T. H. White, whose “The Once and Future King” recounts the legend’s basics and adds creative motivation to familiar characters.
Readers familiar with “The Once and Future King” should open up an old friend and relive the joys of their first experience. Those who haven’t read White will be delighted, awe-struck, and moved. It will be the first of many rewarding reads.
