Dallas attorney and SMU Trustee Michael M. Boone will be honored on Tuesday, Feb. 12, with the J. Erik Jonsson Ethics Award at a luncheon at the historic Belo Mansion.
Mr. Boone graduated from SMU’s Dedman School of Law in 1967 and continued his work in the legal profession by co-founding Haynes and Boone L.L.P. In addition to being an attorney, Boone has served his community through various venues: He was a president of the Dallas Citizens Council, a leader at Preston Road Church of Christ and a member of the board of trustees of the Highland Park Independent School District.
Mr. Boone has also given back to his alma mater by participating in SMU’s Board of Trustees and the Executive Committee of the Dedman School of Law. In 1996, SMU acknowledged Boone’s work by giving him the university’s Distinguished Alumnus Award.
Named for a former Dallas mayor and based on our country’s founders ideas of building a nation built on freedom and “public virtue,” The J. Erik Jonsson Ethics Award honors Boone’s commitment to public service and virtuous direction. Every year, the Maguire Center, which seeks to honor and support ethical behavior, bestows the award upon a deserving individual based on his or her ethical merit.
