Freshman Marta Lesniak started her SMU women’s tennis career with a bang, and it earned her Conference USA Player of the Week honors.
Lesniak, from Wroclaw, Poland, rallied to defeat the No. 4-ranked singles player in the country last Wednesday at the University of Arkansas.
After dropping the first set to Aurelija Miseviciute 1-6, Lesniak bounced back for 7-5 and 7-6 victories in the second and third sets, respectively.
In doubles, Lesniak teamed with Aleksandra Malyarschikova in the No. 1 slot for a 9-7 victory.
It was the fourth consecutive week that an SMU player captured Player of the Week honors. Nicole Briceno won the award twice, and Natalia Bubien earned it once.
SMU (13-2, 2-0) returns to action this Sunday against Yale. The match begins at 9 a.m. at Turpin Tennis Stadium.
