Expand on-campus health services to include: extended hours for the Memorial Health Center, making available after-hours nursing and medical staff, arranging for after-hours on-call physicians.
Creation of a medical hotline to answer SMU students’ immediate medical questions and make possible emergency medical care.
Replace AlcoholEdu with a more effective educational program for incoming students.
Develop and improve services for students recovering from addiction to drugs or alcohol.
Develop activities at Hughes-Trigg until 2 a.m. on weekends and create a game and recreation room to become a gathering place for students.
Include campus ministries and faith-based organizations in expansion of on-campus activity
Use existing venues across campus for late-night events on-campus. One example, a “Movies on the Boulevard” series. With that, improving the lighting on campus.
Encourage all student organizations to have more on-campus events on weekends.
Funding for informal dinners and social occasions for faculty and students to interact outside the classroom
Create a coherent and simple handbook on alcohol and drug laws, campus regulations.
Develop a comprehensive communication plan to get out SMU’s messages on drug and alcohol policy.
Avoid licensing the university’s image to alcohol-related products and promotions. One example, shot glasses with the Mustang logo.
President Turner and the rest of the administration remain involved and communicate to the SMU community developments in the drug and alcohol prevention efforts.
