On Feb. 26, The Daily Campus published an article entitled “Looking for Diversity: Greek System Remains Segregated.”
The story by Lauren Atkinson, a contributing writer, quoted Lauren Brundage, a member of the Kappa Alpha Theta sorority, as saying the sorority is not necessarily known for its diversity: “We are trying to change that but honestly there are people who are not open to it. We use the excuse that the alumni would be upset, but truthfully some people in our sorority want to keep it the way it is.”
Brundage subsequently said she did not make these statements and said she would file a lawsuit. Atkinson said she quoted her accurately. Brundage asked for a retraction. Peter Brundage, Lauren’s father, also said he wanted a retraction or he would shut down The Daily Campus. Atkinson sent Brundage an e-mail saying she made a mistake, but now says the quote was accurately reported. The Daily Campus stands by the story.
