Men’s golf wraps up play in Tucson

The SMU men’s golf team took 12th place at the National Invitational Tournament in Tucson, Ariz.

After falling to 7th overall in the first round of play on Sunday, the Mustangs fought to stay on the leaderboard at the par-72, 7,094-yard Tucson National Golf Course on Monday.

Kelly Kraft posted SMU’s top score, tying for 29th on the final day after shooting 5-over 221 for 54 holes. Kraft shot a 70 in the opening round, followed by a 76 and 75. Placing behind Kraft at 43rd was teammate Marc Sambol. Sambol shot 7-over 223 for 54 holes.

James Kwon, Max Buckley and Draegen Majors all shot over 225 to cap off the two-day tournament.

The University of New Mexico came away with the trophy by shooting a 850, which was seven strokes ahead of second place Arizona. Nick Geyer of New Mexico shot nine-under par to capture the individual victory.

SMU travels to Austin on Monday to compete in the Morris Williams Invite.
