Tahitian Noni recently opened a restaurant here in Dallas, and after sipping some of its herbal teas at a coffee shop in Amsterdam, I was excited to check out its cuisine.
Tahitian Noni proudly claims that it puts health first, so after a hard workout, this was exactly what my Sensei recommended. I went on a mission.
I stepped into the cafe with such exhilaration, but little did I know how quickly that feeling would fade away.
The “Noni” is located in the Mondrian, convenient for all of us uptown dwellers.
That is why it is such a shame to have a restaurant as such in this prime location, a restaurant that specializes in meals anyone could make with ease.
That for an average of $14 a meal at the “Noni,” one would rather venture elsewhere to acquire a bite in which a little more effort in preparation was put forth.
The atmosphere is nice, though not Tahitian in my opinion, though I have no idea what that would exactly entail.
If you do decide to go there for a quick snack, I recommend you act hastily, because I don’t believe it will be able to afford another year’s rent.
This must be looked at in a positive light, though – hopefully we will get something better here in the near future!
Our recommended V-Day Spot is the home of Dallas’ only underground steakhouse, Dakota’s.
This restaurant has its chefs handpick the steaks daily, and then dry-age them for four weeks to ensure tenderness.
Entering from ground level, people look like ants as they politic below the street on the outside tile patio with a full service bar and fire pit.
You take an elevator below to dine. Start with the crab stuffed mushrooms, Maryland crab cakes or, my favorite, the shrimp cocktail stack (cucumber salad and avocado spinach dressing).
The steaks are futuristic – they jump in your mouth like old school break beats.
The “Bone-in Filet” and “Cowboy Cuts” of meat are how I roll, but some people just can’t get down like that.
Dakota’s lunch has got my stomach feeling good. It’s comparable to Houston’s in respect to price, so it’s simply a hell of a deal ($25-50 per person for dinner, lunch $10-$30).
