Have a great idea for a comic, but don’t have the money or time to invest in a full Web site like Penny Arcade or XKCD?
A new application from Microsoft’s Live Labs called “Infinite Canvas” could suit your artistic ambitions.
“Infinite Canvas, a JavaScript application developed by Ian Gilman, allows people to instantly construct and upload visual materials, such as web comics, for the entire world.
Through Microsoft’s Deep Zoom technology, viewers can scroll by simply grabbing the screen with the mouse pointer.
The application yields possibility for other artistic ventures, as evidenced by a submission called Tweaker Zine Akira, which turns black-and-white photographs of modern Japan into a visual presentation of the culture.
The project is currently in alpha, meaning development of the user interface, aesthetic and back-end coding is incomplete. Interested visitors can submit their entries and perhaps even have them featured.
Infinite Canvas can be found at infinitecanvas.appjet.net.
