The SMU men’s and women’s swimming teams fell to the top-tier University of Texas, Saturday in Austin.
Thomas Fadnes led the No. 20 Mustangs against the No. 1 Longhorns, winning and setting season-best times in both the 50-yard (19.99 seconds) and 100-yard freestyle (43.51).
Despite winning seven of the 14 events, the Mustangs could not keep pace with UT in the 200-yard freestyle and 100-yard butterfly events, and the Longhorns won, 150-103.
Next up for the men’s team is the Conference-USA Championships beginning Feb. 25 in Houston.
The No. 17 SMU women also fell short Saturday at Texas’ Joe Jamail Swimming Center, falling to the No. 3 Longhorns, 150-87.
The Mustangs won both the 200-yard medley and 400-yard freestyle relays but finished behind UT in most individual events.
Raminta Dvariskyte finished first in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:17.49) for SMU’s only individual win on the day.
The team returns to action on Friday when it competes in the University of Missouri’s Grand Prix in Columbia, MO.
