Located off the very end of Greenville Avenue at 5631 Alta Ave, Nandina Asian Tapas offers an extensive selection of Asian dishes. From sushi to sea bass to lettuce chicken wraps to pad Thai noodles, the menu is not only wide, but also diverse. The best part: Nandina is open until 3 a.m., and deliver within a five-mile radius (this includes SMU).
Albeit a bit hard to find and even more difficult to park at, Nandina has a sleek atmosphere with an inside bar and an outside patio equipped for all seasons. The staff is attentive and concerned, however, at moments, they are extremely difficult to communicate with. Callers should be prepared to be on hold multiple times during a delivery order. However, when the steaming $10 pad Thai arrives at the door, it is well worth any struggle.
The menu starts at $3.45 and with the exception of a few sashimi samplers to share, does not exceed $13.95. It also contains basically every dish under the Asian sun, except perhaps, orange chicken.
The delivery minimum is $15, the same as Betty’s Best All-Around, and the food is far superior. The pad Thai with tofu and vegetables is delicious as are many of the hot tapas, including the chicken lettuce wraps which resemble those of P.F. Chang’s. Other winners in this category include Chilean sea bass ($10.95) and lamb chops ($11.95).
Although the sushi is nothing out of the ordinary, it will satisfy a simple craving, though nothing too elaborate. Rolls range from $4.75 to $12.95.
Nandina is open daily from 5:30 p.m. to 3:00 a.m. for dine-in, take-out and delivery service. Whether looking for some quality food on a budget or a late-night dinner far above usual standards, Nandina delivers.
