The Friday before last, SMU experienced an awakening that was much needed but not well received. Three men came to campus and proclaimed the unadulterated word of God, but they were rejected in great numbers. I marvel that these so-called “Christians” can be so selective. If it is something other than the false message that EVERYBODY is going to Heaven, then we have a problem with it. We read in Revelation 21:8 that “ALL LIARS shall have their part in the lake of fire,” and we reinterpret it to say that lying is okay – sometimes. We harp on grace as if it was a luxury and a license to sin, but we fail to realize that the grace we so carelessly abuse requires a higher standard. In Leviticus 18:22 and also 20:13, God emphatically and unquestionably condemns homosexuality, but in the New Testament, where we find grace, Paul says in I Corinthians 6:9, 10, that among those who are going to hell are the effeminate. Paul is basically saying that being a “broken wristed” guy is just as bad as committing the sexual act between two of the same sex.
When those men read exactly what God said, we as a whole attacked them. When you attack someone who does nothing more than read from the Bible, you commence to attack a power that you have no authority over. Others argued that it was their presentation that was inappropriate, but I say that regardless of the smile or frown that one’s face shows, the truth is the truth. What we fail to notice is that the Word of God is described as a sword that cuts away things that are not like Christ. Jeremiah said that it felt like fire shut up in his bones. The gospel did not come to make us comfortable or to keep from hurting our feelings, it came to set us right.
WAKE UP, SMU!!! This is prophecy come to pass. I Timothy 4:3,4 says, “For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine – they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.” We don’t want to know the truth, we want to hear something that won’t make us cease from the filth in which we participate. Isaiah 30:10 says that the people wanted to hear “smooth things.” We don’t want to hear about hell, we want to hear about love and mercy. James 2:13 says, “And he shall have judgment without mercy. . . .” But, we don’t know that scripture, because we don’t read our Bibles. We quote what we heard somebody else say. When we do read, we ignore the parts that make us feel bad. Well, I come to warn you of something you might not know. We are not going to be judged by what these corrupt pastors have told us. We are going to be judged by the word of God according to Revelation 20:12.
SMU is idolatrous. We have created this naïve, easily mistreated god who constantly lies. Because when this god said “the wages of sin is death,” he didn’t mean it. When this god said, “He that sinneth against me, him will I blot out of my book,” we realized that since we have believed for our entire lives that once a name goes into the Book of Life, it doesn’t come out, then obviously our playful god was lying again. He was also lying when he said that fornication, lying, drinking, homosexuality, stealing and killing would get us a one-way ticket to hell. Nah, he didn’t mean that. Well, I serve the God of the Bible. The One who said exactly what He meant. Christians, take the Word of God AS IS. Stop reading less into it than is said. If He said it, then I guarantee you He will do it! So, I commend those brave men who came up here to shed some light on the incredibly thick darkness that rests over SMU. Everyone who heard those men have been warned. And it would be wise to take heed, because you are now without excuse. . . .
