It’s that time of the year; Homecoming is upon us! Ed Board is genuinely excited about the events that have gone on this week, as well as the events planned for the weekend. From float building to football games, from pep rallies to parades, this week has been exciting for the SMU community.
Tuesday’s College Bowl was a tantalizing battle of wits. The painted ponies in front of Clements Hall add some much needed color and vibrance to campus. The Pigskin Revue should be a promising event, rich with tradition. While the Mrs. Baird’s Factory isn’t making bread anymore, the old warehouse has been the home of ingenuity and design rivaling the likes of the most enterprising engineering firms. Ahh, the wonders of lumber, chicken wire, spray glue and pomp. Who knew one could do make so much from so little?
Many groups have gotten involved with float building, and the parade should be exciting. It starts at 11:30 a.m.; the route goes down Hillcrest and around Bishop Boulevard and is a great way to kick off tailgating.
Speaking of float building, it’s not just the Greeks who are getting involved with float building this year. Ed Board is so impressed with the efforts of groups like Asian Council, the Class of 2009, Program Council and Wesley that we are considering getting involved in the float building next year. Can you imagine an oversized, pomped issue of The Daily Campus?
Speaking of the good old Daily Campus, this week marks a special moment for us, too. Student Media Company is commemorating its 75th anniversary. Student Media Company is responsible for this publication, as well as The Rotunda yearbook, the student directory, the SMU coupon book and the annual sports, housing and restaurant guides. There was a special insert in yesterday’s paper celebrating our birthday, and this week is a great time to reflect on not only what this university means to us as a student body, but what it has meant to the thousands of Mustangs who have preceded us.
So, welcome back, alums. We’re glad you’re here. Have a great Homecoming Weekend and let’s beat the hell out of Rice this weekend – if the football team can’t get it done, our band will surely show them up! GO MUSTANGS!
