No. 1 singles player Robin Fahgen was selected Thursday to the All-Conference USA first team for the second consecutive year.
Sophomore Artem Baradach, who made his first appearance on the second team, joined him. The duo guided SMU to a 16-11 season, and they return to a squad that will not lose a single player to graduation.
Fahgen started his season with a bang, upsetting then No. 21-ranked Denes Lucaks, of Baylor University, in straight sets. Fahgen finished the season with a 13-5 record and a No. 67 national ranking.
Baradach, competing in various spots in the lineup, finished 21-6. He had a 7-1 record in No. 2 singles.
SMU head coach Carl Neufeld couuld not be reached for comment.
SMU finished third in the conference’s regular season standings and fell to the University of Rice in the conference tournament’s semifinals for the second consecutive season. After making an appearance in the NCAA Championships in 2008, the Mustangs did not receive an invite this spring.
