Also joining the team in the upcoming season are freshmen Alisha Filmore, Jasmine Davis and Sarah Shelton.
Filmore, a 5-foot-7 guard from Mansfield Summit High School, committed to SMU after averaging 11.1 points per game and 2.8 steals last season.
“[SMU] likes to use a running game and really get up on people on defense, and I really love that about the game,” Filmore told The Dallas Morning News. “I met the teammates, I met the coaches and it just seems like it will be a great fit for me and them.”
Hoping to have an immediate impact on the Mustangs’ defense, Rompola said, “[Filmore] will help us with her speed. She’ll add a lot to our transition game, and she’s another great defender.”
Looking to help SMU on both ends of the ball is Davis, a 5-foot-8 guard that Rompola said “has great quickness,” adding the Duncanville High School graduate is “a very unselfish player on the offensive end, but on the defensive end, she’s very quick and aggressive.”
Rounding out the freshman trio is Shelton, a 6-foot-3 center from the Nolan Catholic School for Girls in Fort Worth. Having only a few years of experience behind her, Rompola said she feels her best playing days are still to come.
She runs the floor very well and will be a strong presence for us in the paint,” Rompola said.
