Staying energized throughout the day

The carefree days of summer have come to and end and your heavy load of college courses has just begun. In order to make this transition easiest and stay on top of class-work, be sure to keep your body fueled throughout the day. Here is a list of ten healthy snack options that will keep you energized.

Fruit: Whoever said an apple a day keeps the doctor away, wasn’t kidding! This fun, fiber-filled snack is not only delicious but will keep you feeling full longer.

1) String Cheese: This childhood favorite is one that you can carry into adulthood. The yummy snack is low-calorie and loaded with protein. Just remember that those other cheesy faves (mozzarella sticks and mac-n-cheese) are meant for the kids!

2) Trail Mix: Sweet and salty – the perfect combination! Loaded with peanuts and dried fruit, this snack is sure to give you an energy boost and has something for everyone. Though the colorful M&Ms may be the most appealing ingredient in the bag, you will not find them to be as appealing to your waistline. If you’re just going to dig for the M&Ms, you might as well save yourself the trouble and grab a bag from the nearest 7-11 (one bag of these sugary sweets contains 315 calories and almost 14 grams of fat – yikes!)

3) Pretzels: Although not loaded with nutrients, these are a go-to grab for a low-cal/low-fat snack. When you find yourself in Fondren, choose them over chips and Cheetoh’s any day!

4) Rice Cakes: With the variety of flavors available, you’ll never get sick of these light crisps. Rice cakes range in flavor from caramel to cheddar and everything in between. Flavors such as caramel and chocolate serve as perfect alternatives for that afternoon sweet tooth!
