The Mustangs, winners of their last three home matches, return to Turpin Tennis Stadium on Sunday for a pair of matches against non-conference opponents.
SMU begins the doubleheader at noon against Virginia Commonwealth University, then faces in-state foe Prairie View A&M at 4 p.m.
The Mustangs split a pair of matches last weekend in Pebble Beach, Calif, falling to the California Golden Bears on Saturday and rebounding for a 5-1 victory against Saint Mary’s College on Sunday.
SMU (11-8) has won four of its last five matches, despite playing the last three without No. 1 singles player Robin Fahgen.
An SMU athletics official would not comment on why Fahgen was not in the lineup, and it is unclear whether he will be available to play on Sunday.
Freshman David Costa, who has filled in for Fahgen, is 2-1 in the No. 1 singles spot. He edged Lucas Tirelli, of St. Mary’s, 6-4, 6-4 on Sunday.
The doubles tandem of Adham el-Effendi and Darren Walsh lost only its second match of the season Saturday against California.
The pair moved up from the No. 2 spot to the No. 1 spot and was trounced 8-2 by the No. 9-ranked doubles team in the country.
After this weekend, the Mustangs have only two home matches remaining this season. They face Oklahoma State next Friday, then return the following day to face Grambling State.
The Conference USA Tournament begins April 16 in Houston.
