The SMU volleyball team lost 3-1(30-20, 27-30, 30-26, 30-24) to Conference USA opponent Tulsa on Saturday in Tulsa, Okla. at the Donald W. Reynolds Center.
Sophomore outside hitter Rachel Giubilato earned her 10th double-double for the season with 15 kills and 11 digs. She was followed by senior middle blocker Kelly Larkan, who had 10 kills and 12 digs, and sophomore outside hitter Caitlin Rainbird, who contributed 10 kills and 14 digs.
Sophomore setter Madison Hill led the Mustangs (5-9) with 47 assists and eight digs, while junior libero Jennette Evanco tallied 16 digs and three service aces. Senior middle blocker Ashley Zener and freshman middle blocker Natalie Peters had nine kills and five blocks each in the SMU loss.
Evanco said that though the team performed well in the individual aspects of the game that had been stressed in recent practices, such as hitting and serving, there are still areas of improvement necessary for victory.
“We need to learn how to execute and take care of the ball on our side of the net,” Evanco said.
The Mustangs will take the court again Tuesday, Oct. 4, when they host UCF at 7 p.m. in Moody Coliseum, a match previously postponed because of Hurricane Rita.
