The Mustangs, featuring three freshmen in their rotation, finished eighth out of 18 teams at the Morris Williams Intercollegiate, which concluded Tuesday at the University of Texas Golf Club in Austin.
Sophomore Kelly Kraft, two-time recipient of the Conference USA Golfer of the Week award, tied for ninth place after shooting a nine-over par in the three-round event. He shot a 72 on the first day, then a 74 and 76 in the second and third rounds, respectively.
Max Buckley, a freshman from Rye, N.Y., tied for 29th after shooting a 228. Another freshman, James Kwon, finished just behind Buckley after shooting 16-over par.
After shooting an 81 in the first round, junior Ben Tewes, a transfer from Oklahoma State University, shot two consecutive rounds of 76 to finish in a tie for 50th. Marc Sambol, a freshman from Highland Park, shot a 72 on the second day, but slipped to an 85 in the final round and finished tied for 80th.
The Mustangs have one more regular season tournament remaining, the Mizzou Tiger Invite, April 13-14 in Columbia, Mo. The Conference USA Championship begins April 19 in Orlando, Fla. The host team, Central Florida, is the No. 21-ranked team in the country.
