These cowboy boots are made for walking

If your fashion tips come from Jessica Simpson, Sienna Miller or Mary-Kate Olsen – then it’s time to get a pair of vintage cowboy boots. Finding these boots in earthy colors and chunky heels will add substance to your wardrobe. This season, it’s all about mixing the brand-new with the broken-in.

These boots are usually paired with long bohemian skirts, though girls often pair them with miniskirts here at SMU.

Before the game last Friday, the Boulevard was full of girls wearing tiny skirts and sporting intricately designed cowboy boots. Even though celebrities are having fun with this new trend, some SMU students are not yet convinced to wear them.

When asked to describe her feelings about the boots, Program Council President Crystal Smith said, “Well, normally I would wear the cowboy boots, since I am from the South, but because they are considered ‘trendy’ right now, then I will go against the grain and not wear them until the fad passes.”

On the other hand, Whitney Patterson felt differently. “Oh my gosh, I love cowboy boots, they are SO in right now, every girl should own a pair, especially living in Texas,” she said.

You might be asking yourself who or what initiated this ever-so-Texan trend. A good guess for the inspiration would be Jessica Simpson’s latest movie, “Dukes of Hazzard.”

One thing to watch out for is overdoing this look. To avoid looking like a rodeo extra, please only wear one western piece at a time. This new Boho chic look can be very casual and stylish, but it must be done correctly.

The western boots could very well be the replacement for last season’s infamous UGG boots. With a variety of colors to choose from, these boots will brighten up the fall semester.
