SMU students are flaunting their impeccable style this fall more than ever before.
Mustangs have historically been known to be one of the best-dressed student populations in the country, and this year is no different.
As the crisp fall weather rolls in to Dallas, the bright sundresses and khaki shorts are being stowed away until spring.
Jackets, scarves and boots are making their way onto the boulevard as the temperatures begin to drop.
Outwear trends tend to emerge in Texas stores in October. And this year, the styles are drastically different from the softer jackets the runway showcased last season.
Leather jackets frequently appear on the Fashion Week runways for Fall 2009.
Apryl Churchill, a representative for Dallas-based retailer Neiman Marcus, said, “The motorcycle jacket goes with virtually everything, from a top with jeans to dresses with tights. I think its extreme versatility is what makes it one of the key items this fall.”
This season’s motorcycle jackets are adorned with gold or silver hardware, and a few styles boast fur linings.
“I absolutely love this kind of jacket. I can see myself wearing that over a simple tee to class any day,” freshman Victoria Mason said. “It’s edgy without being overly so.”
Scarves are the easiest cool weather trend to personalize and truly make one’s own. They come in an endless number of colors, patterns and textures.
“My favorite kind of scarf to wear is patterned ones in more basic colors. I generally don’t buy the brightly colored ones, but I think plum, brown, black and navy scarves are going to be big in the upcoming months,” SMU student Jordan Greenbaum said.
Throw one on over a simple fall outfit to give it a little more flair.
Since students are often out facing the elements between classes, having a good pair of comfortable yet trendy boots to wear is crucial.
Several brands are drawing the consumer away from the heeled boots and bringing them back down to earth with equestrian-style flats in suede or leather.
“I recently bought a pair of flat boots, and I love them,” freshman Meghan Shaw said. “They are perfect to tuck into jeans, and I never have a problem walking those long stretches to class in them when it’s chilly out.”
A great pair of boots is a fail-proof addition to any girl’s closet this fall.
Stores all over Dallas are offering up the fall’s hottest trends to keep SMU students warm throughout the season.
Jackets, boots and scarves can ward off the dry Texas wind and can function as a canvas to showcase individuality at any price point or style.
