Swimmers from both the SMU squads are competing in the 2007 American Short Course Championships beginning today and running through Saturday Feb. 24. The meet features professional, collegiate and club swimmers from around the country.
Justine Clark and Angela San Juan Cisneros will represent the SMU women’s team while the majority of the men’s team will compete at the University of Texas’ Lee and Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center.
The Mustangs have the top seed in both the 200-yard freestyle relay and the 1650-yard freestyle. Michael Dmitriev holds the top spot in the 1650-yard freestyle and is the No. 3 seed in the 500-yard freestyle. All the Mustang relays are seeded in the top five.
This is the last meet for collegiate swimmers to earn NCAA automatic and provisional qualifying times. The NCAA Championships take place March 15-17 in Minneapolis.
