Student senate update

The inaguaral meeting of the 100th Student Senate was largely one in which the new senators got their bearings for the new school year.

The only new business of the session was to award Jennifer “JJ” Jones for her work with the Student Senate after various senators spoke to the quality of her work as the Student Senate advisor.

Afterward, she received a framed copy of the resolution that honored her from Student Body President, Ramon Trespalacios, who said that she, “always told me to do me. It’s awesome to have mentors and supporters like her.”

In other news from Senate:

-Fondren Library will be under a renovation process until Spring 2016. Among the improvements are plans for a new café.

-During President Trespalacios’ inagural speech, it was revealed that the administration is on board with the movement to sell alcohol in Ford Stadium for football games.

-Trespalacios said that the idea broke down when the necessary paperwork to sell alcohol in the stadium was not submitted in time.

-The Student Senate now has a hashtag for students to voice complaints, #fixitsenate. The idea behind the social media play is that it allows students to submit concerns easily.
