The results of the 2006 General Elections were announced this morning after a record breaking turn-out of 2166 students, beating last year’s high of 1971.
Katherine Tullos and Brooks Powell won the vice president and secretary positions, respectively. None of the presidential candidates secured more than 50 percent of total votes as required for election to any Student Body Officer post.
With Taylor Russ securing 45.2 percent of the vote and Michelle Wigianto receiving 29.1 percent, a run-off election will be held on March 7 and 8.
Campaigning for run-off election begins February 24 at 9 a.m. and the expense limit for both Russ and Wigianto will be $50.
“One of our goals this year was to get Senate out there and really make sure people knew what we do,” said President Liz Healy. “I think it’s evident from the incredible turnout and the number of students running for elected positions that students really want to have an active voice at SMU.”
