The Mustangs are the No. 12 seed in the Hunter Seat division of the Varsity National Championships, which will be held April 18-20 in Waco. This is the fourth consecutive year SMU has received an invitation to the Championships.
In a re-match of last year’s first round, SMU will face No. 5 seed Texas A&M. The competition, which is being hosted by Baylor University and held at Waco’s Heart of Texas Fair and Rodeo Complex, features 12 teams from across the nation.
The Championships are the next competition following SMU’s loss to the Georgia Bulldogs on Saturday in an English-only dual meet in Athens. Mustang Lauren Hester led the team with 153 points and was the MVP on the flat with 80 points. The meet put SMU at 2-5 in dual meets for the season, which concludes April 1 when the Mustangs host South Carolina.
