The star of Discovery Channel’s “Fast N’ Loud,” Richard Rawlings, opens Gas Monkey Bar and Grill only minutes from Dallas Love Field near Northwest Highway and I-35.
“It is awesome to have someone so accomplished standing behind you,” Gas Monkey bartender Danny Martinez said.
Gas Monkey Bar and Grill broke ground in March and quickly renovated their building for a soft opening Sept. 23. The building is a warehouse type structure that gives the outside a ‘garage’ style look. The inside provides a small stage and vast amounts of seating as well as a full service bar with several televisions. There is a large outdoor patio for outdoor seating as well as the main stage and bar.
The restaurant strives to compete with other local entertainment venues, such as House of Blues. Gas Monkey is unique, however, in the fact that they combine a traditional Texas smokehouse menu and the atmosphere of a rockin’ concert venue to provide an awesome place nearly 1,800 people to enjoy.
“We are a live music concert first and foremost,” General Manager Alex Mendoasa said.
The outdoor stage is set on a large deck over seeing a small pond. The venue provides a whopping 8000-watt state of the art sound system made by the Spanish company DAS. Mendoasa said that this was the first installment of this system anywhere in the world.
There are several ways to enjoy the music, such as popular bands like the Marshall Tucker Band, at Gas Monkey Bar and Grill. They provide a VIP section with a personal bar, bathroom and seating on the upper level of the venue that over looks the main stage. There are also several cabanas for rent, which hold six to eight people.
Every night there is a different kind of live music. From live rock n’ roll karaoke to local cover bands, Gas Monkey is always pumping tunes. Monday is the only day that there is no live music. Instead they have live viewing parties of “Fast N’ Loud” where the cast from the show hangs out at the bar.
Gas Monkey is still in the process of finishing their renovations and is gearing up for their grand opening.
“It’ll be in three to six months because we want to make sure everything is perfect,” bartender Jessica Fulling said.
The key for Gas Monkey is not just a big party for their opening, but it is having a big name artist perform to make the celebration that much better.
“We may even combine the Grand Opening and the one year anniversary, we just don’t know yet,” Mendoasa said.
