He’s talented. He’s got an eye for high fashion.
He’s designing for one of the top designers in the fashion industry. And he’s not bad to look at, either.
His name is Massimiliano Giornetti, and he’s the head designer for the male clothing line for Salvatore Ferragamo Italy.
Giornetti was born in Carrara, Italy, on Oct. 29, 1971. After studying Foreign Languages and Literature at the University of Florence, he studied at the Polimoda Institute of Fashion Design and Marketing in Florence.
The Polimoda Institute of Fashion Design and Marketing is one of the top fashion design and marketing schools in Italy. Polimoda’s Web site states that they offer “many programs in the fashion design industry [in order] to create the next generation of top fashion designers in Italy and internationally.”
“Students come
from all over to the world to Polimoda’s campus in Florence, Italy, to study at the undergraduate as well as Master’s level in fashion marketing, design and merchandising. Coursework includes design classes on women’s and men’s fashion, footwear, accessories, handbags and textiles, among many others. [Students] study at Italy’s top fashion design school, and intern at one of the local Italian design firms leading the fashion world today.”
After getting his degrees, Giornetti worked for a year in Rome as designer assistant for the Haute Couture Ready to Wear collections.
In July 2000, Giornetti joined Salvatore Ferragamo Italy.
His designs for the men’s collection (which includes polos, pants, blazers, quilted jackets and pants, car coats, sweaters and more) should be on the must-have list for many SMU men. Giornetti’s designs are clean and cool with a casual sophistication that you won’t find at the Gap.
What is especially remarkable about Giornetti’s designs is his attention to detail. Take, for example, a polo shirt from the Salvatore Ferragamo men’s collection. This polo is anything but average. It has “Tonal Gancini” bit embroidery in the left chest area, a spread collar, and three-button placket. And hey- it’s made in Italy, so you know it’s fantastic.
The Ferragamo car coat should already be on your Christmas list, guys. And even for girls – what better way to make your father or boyfriend’s wardrobe just a little trendier? The Ferragamo car coat is brown leather with tonal shearling trim and lining. It has a spread collar, side slash pockets, and silver-tone Gancini closures down the front. It’s manly. It’s refined. Most importantly, it’s classic.
Thanks to Giornetti, the Ferragamo men’s collection is one of the most desired and highly sought after collections in fashion.
Why is all of this relevant? NorthPark’s Fashion at the Park’s grand opening event this year is a cocktail reception benefiting the Dallas Contemporary, hosted by Kimberly and Justin Whitman, followed by a sure-to-be-fabulous runway show featuring the Salvatore Ferragamo men’s and women’s collections for spring and summer. Massimiliano Giornetti will be in attendance as a special guest.
If you’re just dying to meet this ultra-talented designer, tickets are $150 to attend both the cocktail reception and Salvatore Ferragamo runway show. That is, if you can manage to get one.
