SMU Volleyball stumbles on the road in conference opener

The SMU volleyball team fell flat against the University of Texas-El Paso (25-22, 25-23, 25-16) and then lost a five-set tiebreaker to Tulane (23-25, 25-21, 25-19, 21-25, 15-12), this past weekend.

SMU dug themselves a hole early against UTEP, losing the first set. The second set was better for SMU, but Miners’ intensity was too much for the Mustangs. The second set loss deflated the Mustangs and they barely contested the third and final set.

The Mustangs started off taking the first set against Tulane. However, the Green Wave won back the momentum in the second set that was closely contested to the wire.

Tulane also captured the third set before SMU fought back, winning the fourth set to force a tiebreaker.

Unfortunately, the Mustangs were unable to hold onto a late lead, allowing the Green Wave to win the final set and the match.
