What do top model Karlie Kloss, Emmy nominated writer, producer, actress Mindy Kaling and the SMU Lyle School of Engineering have in common? All are trying to get girls involved in the tech and engineering world. Kloss and Kaling are both involved with Girls Who Code, an organization working to “inspire, educate and equip girls with the computing skills” to make them eligible for the projected 1.4 million computer specialist jobs by 2020.

Lyle is also interested in reaching out to girls and young women. Through one of its many K-12 programs Lyle is dedicated to making young girls see their future in engineering. It is also committed to “reaching gender parity” in the next five years, meaning they are hoping to have as many girls in the program as men.

So, smart girls stand up and be proud of your nerdy self! For more info check out the Lyle School of Engineering’s website.
