Junior Andrea Kvetova was named C-USA’s Track Athlete of the Week, but she isn’t exactly writing home in excitement.
“Acutally, I didn’t even know I had won until you e-mailed me,” the Czech Republic native said. “It’s nice to win, and I’m excited, but no one told me.”
Kvetova threw the javelin for the third-best distance of the season nationally, with 52.10 meters just last week.
Despite winning the Baylor/Dr. Pepper Invitational March 25 with that distance, Kvetova is still striving for a longer throw.
“I wasn’t satisfied with any of my throws that day,” she said. “I was happy for the distance, but I want to throw farther.”
Kvetova is still recovering from two shoulder surgeries she had before coming to SMU. She red-shirted her freshman year and said her sophomore year was for recovery.
“Right now, I have a much better range of motion,” she said. “I can practice 100 percent, exactly how I need to now.”
Kvetova recently qualified for the NCAA track meet.Kvetova said she doesn’t want to jinx herself by setting goals for the meet.
“It’s going to be a surprise for me how far I throw,” she said. “I just want to compete the best I can and throw farther than 52 meters.”
