A group of students will have the opportunity to escape the coldness of Dallas in January for the sun of Costa Rica.

For the second time, the Embrey Human Rights Program’s Student Leadership Initiative is sending students to Costa Rica to address human rights concerns.

Fourteen students went on the first trip in May. They will present their independent research Wednesday at 9 to 11 a.m. in the Hughes-Trigg Forum.

While in the South American country, the students researched problems focusing on health, the environment and indigenous people.

The Human Rights Program decided to continue work in the country in January 2015. Not only will students conduct research, they will work with local agencies addressing similar issues.

“It is ongoing community building and hands on work,” said Human Rights Program Coordinator Sherry Aikman.
