If you’re a fan of the TV show Bones then you should’ve been at the Highland Park United Methodist Church tonight for Author’s Live. Students and the elderly came out to listen to a humorous lecture by Kathy Reichs, author of the book series that inspired the hit Fox show.
Reichs spoke about her career and experiences as a forensic anthropologist. She entertained the crowd with stories from the set, and about the bodies she has personally worked on. She spoke about the specific cases she’s worked on and how she spins those situations into fictional stories, using history, human rights and airline catastrophes.
Everything from an autopsy on an Egyptian mummy, working on the 9/11 site, and uncovering a mass grave in Guatemala, Reichs is called all over the world to look at human remains.
When she was asked about how she balances working on cases, producing a TV show and writing New York Times best selling books she laughed and said, “I don’t have time for writers block.”
The lecture was cut short because she had to speed off to an interview with CNN. The next Author’s Live will be with S. C. Gwynne, the author of Rebel Yell.
