Need a study break? SMU’s very own DeGolyer Library presents “Defined By Light”, an exhibit worth checking out. It highlights the first 75 years of photography and features over 700 hundred objects and photographs. The pieces were gifted by local couple, Jack and Beverly Wilgus, who are photographers and photographic historians.
The exhibition marks the 175th anniversary of the announcement of photography explained the DeGolyer Library Curator of Photographs Anne Peterson. “[The Wilguses’] and I agree that looking at the original object is very different than seeing it in a book,” said Peterson.
The images and items come from all over the world, including examples from pre-photography, such as silhouettes and miniatures. The Texana room includes an interactive display that is part of the exhibit.
The collection will be open through finals week, so be sure to check it out and pick up a free “Defined By Light” book.
