The SMU Cross Country will compete in the Chile Pepper Invitational in Fayetteville, Ark. on Oct. 17.
This is the fourth event for the Mustangs this season and all matches have been very successful. SMU came in first in their season opening event at the TCU Cross Country Opener as well as first in the North Texas Invitational two weeks ago.
When the team traveled to South Bend, Ind. earlier this month, the Mustangs finished eighth out of 22 teams. Their strong showing catapulted the Mustangs up the rankings. They are now ranked No. 2 in the South Central Region behind Baylor University and are No. 26 overall in the nation.
Last year, in the 2008 season, SMU finished third out of 39 teams in the Chile Pepper Invitational. Only Texas Tech and host Arkansas finished ahead of the Mustangs. SMU beat out several top schools, including Boston College, the University of Texas and Texas A&M.
