Meadows Museum will host its bi-weekly event, “Drawing from the Masters,” May 1 from 1:30 to 3 p.m.

The event gives attendees the opportunity to learn from local artist and college professor, Ian O’Brien. Guests can expect to explore a variety of techniques and improve their general drawing skills. O’Brien will lead guests through the Meadows Museum’s galleries and provide informal drawing instruction.

“Every two weeks we get to look at work from both the museum’s collection as well as traveling exhibits focusing on different skills in each class. Sometimes we look at the figure, landscape, how to draw the hand, etc. so no one will feel left out if they miss a class,” O’Brien said.

O’Brien has a vast amount of experience. He is an adjunct professor at Tarrant County College as well as an art teacher at Lewisville ISD. He received two degrees from the University of North Texas in drawing and painting and art education as well as an MFA in studio art from the University of Texas at San Antonio. He has curated local and national exhibitions, exhibited his work in over thirty venues across Texas and much more.

“I have been teaching Drawing from the Masters at the Meadows Museum since Febuary 2010. I enjoy meeting people who have an interest in art, regardless of age or skill level, and helping everyone improve their drawing skills,” he said.

“Drawing from the Masters” is designed for adults and students ages 15 and older, and is open to all levels of experience. Though drawing materials will be available, participants are encouraged to bring their own sketchpads and pencils.
