If you walk past a group of red and blue cups on Dallas Hall Lawn, it’s not leftover from the last Boulevard. The cups were purposely placed on Wednesday by SMU’s Not On My Campus to raise awareness about sexual assault on college campuses nationwide.

Within the square of 500 cups, the amount of blue to red cups is proportional to the statistical number of students who will be sexually assaulted on SMU’s campus based on national reports. The event is called “One Cup Too Many” not to protest binge drinking, said Jacqui Jacoby, vice president of SMU’s Not On My Campus, but to say that even one cup out of the 500 is too many.

Not On My Campus is a student-run organization that has chapters at campuses across the nation. Their goal is to create more active bystanders on campus by encouraging people to step in during situations they think might have the potential to go badly.

“You’d rather be a cockblock than allow someone to be sexually assaulted,” Jacoby said.

Not On My Campus is also part of SMU Heroes Week, put on by Mustang Heroes. They will be screening “The Hunting Ground,” a documentary about sexual assault on college campuses, on Tuesday, Nov. 15. The documentary offers a look into the reality of sexual assault on college campuses and was promoted by Lady Gaga.
