The No. 48 SMU women’s tennis team prepares to close its season with two final matches beginning today at the University of North Texas. The Mustangs are looking for their 10th consecutive win as they face the Mean Green in their second to last dual match of the regular season.
SMU holds a 2-1 conference and a 17-4 overall record. Seniors Jennifer Chay and Georgiana Marta will be honored at SMU’s final home match against UTEP on April 14.
Junior Natalia Bubien tops the Mustang roster at No. 1 singles and doubles. She holds a 9-7 record in dual matches and has won five of her last 10 matches.
Teammate Claire Reistch earned her second C-USA Player of the Week honor last week following the Mustangs’ 6-0 win over Santa Clara. The freshman holds the team’s best singles record, 18-2, and is on a nine-match win streak. She and partner Bubien also hold the best doubles record at 15-3.
Chay holds a 10-4 record at No. 2 singles in her final season. She is 12-6 overall and has won her last six matches. Pavis Francis and Chay pair at No. 2 doubles and have a 12-8 record for the season.
Francis defends the No. 4 singles spot for the Mustangs. The freshman has put together seven straight wins and holds a 12-2 record at No. 4.
Marta is 10-6 overall for SMU and has spent the majority of the season at No. 4 and No. 5. In her last 10 matches, she’s gone 5-4.
Sophomores Kristen Reid and Monica Neveklovska round out the SMU roster, holding down No. 3 doubles and sharing No. 6 singles. The duo is on a four-match win streak and is 12-5 overall in doubles.
The Mean Green is 1-16 this season and has been on the losing end of seven shutouts. Last season, the Mustangs handed UNT a 7-0 loss.
SMU returns to Dallas to finish the regular season on April 14 before the team heads to the C-USA Championships in Tulsa, Okla., April 19-22.
