The SMU women’s golf team placed third overall at the Susie Maxwell Berning Classic this past weekend, despite less than favorable conditions. While battling 25 mph winds and a wind chill of 32 degrees, the Mustangs finished with 875 points, shooting 302 in the final round. Junior Lacey Jones placed fourth overall (69-68-75) with a total of 212, and teammate Jennifer Ackerson tied for 16th after shooting a 72 in the final round. After missing three consecutive events, the senior officially returned to the active roster at the Classic. A total of 18 schools participated in the tournament, which was held at the Jimmie Austin OU Golf Course. The competition included Baylor, the champion of the match, Oklahoma, Tulsa, North Texas and Texas Tech University. The Mustangs will continue play on April 20, with the C-USA Championships.
