Dear Editor:
I am writing you to tell you my disgust at the article that you wrote in the paper today, April 15 (“Student shot in robbery”).
With your article you have left both victims at risk of more harm. By naming the two you have made them feel even more uncomfortable with their situation and even more terrified.
There was absolutely no need for the use of their names. If you wanted to inform others of the situation at hand, it could have been done without the use of their names.
You have violated their privacy by revealing their identity. For the well-being of the students at your own campus, you disregarded the fact that the people involved are actual people and are terrified of what happened and what will happen due to the repercussions of your article.
The Daily Campus was called and pleaded with numerous times not to reveal the information of the victims, but you chose to disregard this fact.
I am speaking on the behalf of others, that feel appalled by this article, but did not put their feelings into words. I hope you realize the pain and danger that you have magnified upon the victims.

Dear Editor:
I would like to know what the purpose was of running the names of the two girls involved in the armed robbery. How did it in any way contribute to the story? I felt as if their names should have been kept anonymous due to the victims’ fragile situation.
I think that your paper lacks a sense of ethics and conscience. For just a second put yourself in their shoes. How would you feel? Didn’t we learn that in kindergarten?
The bottom line is that the issue at hand is safety and how to prevent things like this from ever happening again, not to whom this has happened.
