The SMU community is in mourning after sophomore Jacob Woolley died Tuesday night at his parent’s home in Dallas.

Woolley, 22, a transfer student from Dallas was majoring in human rights with a minor in Spanish.

Dr. Lori White, vice president for Student Affairs, sent out an email to the SMU community to inform it of Woolley’s death.

“Jacob was very involved in the Human Rights program and also participated in last week’s Alternative Spring Break trip to Gallup, N.M.,” White said in the statement.

A public viewing for Woolley will be held Friday, March 22 from 2-4 p.m. at Aria Cremation, at 19310 Preston Road in Dallas.

The Woolley family has asked that any donations that wish to be made should be done so through the Genesis Women’s Shelter.

“SMU extends prayers and condolences to Jacob’s family and other loved ones during this difficult time,” said Kent Best, executive director of news and communication.
