Five
Byron Davis will not score over 30 points in another game this series. Davis couldn’t miss, hitting three-point shots from well beyond the arch and moving into the paint at will. The Mavericks will spend their off days working up a defense to stop him.
Four
Dirk Nowitzki will make more than four field goals from the floor. Nowitzki made just four of 16 shot attempts and missed two free throws. During the regular season Nowitzki tied for second in the NBA with a free throw percentage of over 90 percent. Nowitzki ended the game with just 14 points, something that will not happen again.
Three
Head coach Avery Johnson tried putting different lineups into the game. Johnson attempted to play “small ball” against the shorter Warrior lineup. Eric Dampier played under two and a half minutes in the game without recording a point or a foul. And big man DeSagana Diop played a measly 16 minutes, scoring just four points and grabbing only six rebounds. Look for Johnson to exploit the height, or lack thereof, for the Warriors.
Two
The Warriors had one of the worst defenses in the league during the regular season. Opponents scored a league-high 106.9 points a game and shot 46 percent from the floor against the Golden State defense. The Warriors played one of their best defensive games as the Mavericks played one of the worst offensive games all season. Don’t expect that to happen again. Which leads us to…
One
The Mavericks will not shoot just 35 percent from the floor this series. Dallas averaged 47 percent for the season, the fifth best percentage in the league. The Mavericks also shot just 76 percent from the free throw line. Dallas is second in the league with an average of 80.5 percent from the line. Look for the Mavericks to shed the cobwebs off a rough first-game performance through the rest of the series.
