The owner and staff of Roly Poly sandwich shop, who decided to donate all of their tips this week to the victim of the CVS shooting, have already raised $5,000.
“For us, it was a no brainer to do something,” owner of Roly Poly and SMU Alumnus, Guy Bellaver, said.
The victim of the shooting works at CVS and was eight months pregnant and taken to the hospital after the shooting where she later delivered the baby boy.
“A woman who heard about what we are doing is mailing diapers for the baby and a Fort Worth woman is buying baby clothes and items,” Bellaver said.
This strip on Mockingbird, near SMU, has given discounts and deals to employees of their neighboring stores, but this is an especially unique display of neighborly support.
“We have already raised $5,000 and we are only 3 hours into it,” Bellaver said.
All of the tips Roly Poly receives from today until Sunday, November 10th, will go directly to the victim.
“There were people coming in at 9 a.m., dropping $20 bills and thanking us for what we are doing,” Bellaver said.
In order to raise even more money, Mr. Bellaver, Roly Poly corporate in Florida and two of Bellaver’s SMU friends, are all going to match the tips up to $1,000.
Bellaver credits the “power of social media,” for getting the word out and rallying our community.
“We usually make a couple hundred in tips a week but nothing close to this,” Bellaver said.
If you would like to make a donation Roly Poly is open from 9:30 AM—9 PM every day this week, you can also mail donations to 3038 Mockingbird Lane Dallas, TX 75205.
